Digital Reykjavik - Challenge

How to reach the tourist standing on Lækjatorg Square

Facts:

Reykjavík attracts 2.2 million travellers per year, and the number keeps on rising.

Annually, the city holds more than 3,000 concerts, performances, events, exhibitions and festivals.

There are more than 30 dedicated concert, event venues, exhibition and performance spaces, in addition to the many bars.

The majority of travellers stay in Reykjavík for 12-24 hours.

Only a minority of travellers attend concerts, exhibitions, performances, festivals or other events.

The Feeling:

A traveller stands on Lækjatorg Square. They’ve just returned to the city from a wilderness tour, after experiencing the power of Iceland’s nature. The raging ocean, golden waterfalls, majestic glaciers and the dancing Northern Lights exceeded all of his expectations. The traveller remains in awe, he longs to be touched by the city, to feel his heart sing in the “beyond expectation” Reyjavík experience.

The Reality:

A traveller stands on Lækjatorg Square. He knows little of the city, its venues, its events, its artists; he does not know what is available or what’s possible. The traveller has little time to search for information online, and he does not know where to look. The traveller can only discover a limited overview of events on travel websites such as Whats On, Grapevine, Visit Reykjavík and Tix. The traveller does not know anyone in Iceland and so does not receive Facebook invites to events. The traveller stands on Lækjatorg Square and decides to return to his hotel room, totally unaware that his “beyond expectations” city experience was literally around the corner.

The Challenge:

How to reach the tourist standing on Lækjatorg Square; to quickly lead him in a simple and convenient way, to an event within walking distance, suiting his demographic and interests ... and which also, therefore, goes beyond his expectations?
